"What it means to be a Catholic man today" presented by Deacon Jim Schiltz
Thursday, November 19, 2009
7:00PM
St Mary Parish Center
Deacon Jim Shiltz from the Northside Parish of St. Constance which was founded in 1906 by a group of Polish Immigrants is Fr. Michal’s good friend and early on mentor. Deacon Schiltz talked about what it means to be a Catholic Man in today’s Church and society in general. It was an interesting and compelling discussion, which brought back many memories for everyone there about the examples set for all of us by our fathers. The discussion about the time when his family had to choose between two local Catholic Church’s (his father was German and his Mother Full on board Irish), one a German Catholic and one an Irish Catholic hit home for attendees on multiple levels.
If you couldn’t make it for whatever reason, you missed a great event. Deacon Jim is/was the head of his Church’s Men’s Club and stressed the importance of the Club for the Parish and for the Community. The value it delivers to the Parish and Community is immeasurable, service, faith, brotherhood and tighter bond between the Church’s leadership and the Parish is a much needed thing in these times, specifically in these times.

Utilizing God's timeless principles to orient your use of money around his purpose for your life will put you on solid financial footing. This workshop will help you clarify your purpose and teach you the practical, biblical essentials for using money to fulfill that purpose. The result will be a financial life marked by freedom and even joy in tough times, good times -- at all times.
Matt is a personal finance writer and speaker. He has been quoted in U.S. News and World Report, the Chicago Tribune, and Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, has written for ChristianityToday.com, writes two popular eNewsletters , and has been a guest on several nationally syndicated radio talk shows.
| "Faith during War" a discussion with Greg Saganich, Ssgt (Ret) USAF |

SMMC was honored to have Greg, a veteran of multiple tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq, speak to our group. It was a very engaging and insightful discussion on the impact that faith, family and community have on many of our soldiers. Greg explained the energy drawn from these relationship were the things that got him through his tours. Many walked away with a much greater appreciation for the sacrifices our soldiers make on daily basis in an effort to protect our freedom and that a small token of gratitude to a soldier goes a very long way.
On behalf of the SMMC, St Mary Parish and the community of Riverside, we'd like to thank Greg for his efforts and commitments to fighting the war on terror.
